Short description Overview and Benefits   Progesterone is a female hormone which is responsible for the regulation of menstruation and ovulation. The drug is prescribed to women who have not yet reached menopause but are not getting their periods due to the lack of progesterone.   The drug works by causing menstrual periods. It may also be prescribed to prevent overgrowth in the uterus lining in the postmenopausal women who are using estrogen hormone replacement therapy.   Progesterone should not be taken to prevent dementia or heart disease. The drug can increase the risk of developing these conditions.
